OPG & Cephalogram Dental X-Rays at RADIUS Imaging | Bulk Billed in Geelong

At RADIUS Imaging, we’re committed to providing our community with access to the latest diagnostic imaging technology. Our advanced digital dental imaging system offers OPG (Orthopantomogram) and Cephalogram examinations at four convenient locations across the Geelong region:

  • RADIUS Imaging Waurn Ponds
  • RADIUS Imaging Drysdale
  • RADIUS Imaging Lara
  • RADIUS Imaging Ocean Grove

These specialised dental X-rays provide dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons with detailed images of the teeth, jaws and surrounding structures to assist with diagnosis and treatment planning.

What is an OPG?

An Orthopantomogram (OPG) is a specialised digital dental X-ray that captures a panoramic image of your entire mouth in a single scan. Unlike standard dental X-rays, an OPG provides a comprehensive view of both the upper and lower jaws, teeth, jaw joints (TMJs) and surrounding facial structures.

The scan allows your healthcare provider to assess the position and relationship between the upper and lower jaw while identifying dental and jaw conditions that may not be visible during a routine examination.

An OPG can be used to assess:

  • Missing, impacted or crowded teeth
  • Abnormal tooth development
  • Wisdom teeth
  • Jaw development and alignment
  • Temporomandibular joints (TMJs)
  • Sinuses
  • General dental and jaw health

What is a Cephalogram?

A Cephalogram is a specialised side-view digital X-ray of the head and jaw. It is commonly requested by orthodontists to evaluate facial growth, jaw relationships and tooth positioning before and during orthodontic treatment, such as braces or clear aligners.

Together, OPGs and Cephalograms provide valuable information that helps clinicians accurately diagnose conditions and develop personalised treatment plans.

Advanced Digital Dental Imaging

RADIUS Imaging has invested in a state-of-the-art digital dental imaging system to provide high-quality OPG and Cephalogram examinations across our network.

Our advanced technology delivers:

  • High-resolution diagnostic images
  • Fast and comfortable examinations
  • Lower radiation doses compared with older imaging systems
  • Quick electronic delivery of images to your referring practitioner

These detailed images help dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons make informed decisions while ensuring patients receive a comfortable and efficient imaging experience.

Do You Need a Dental CT Scan?

In some cases, your dentist or specialist may request a Dental CT Scan (Cone Beam CT or CT Dental Scan) instead of, or in addition to, an OPG.

A dental CT scan uses advanced imaging technology to produce detailed three-dimensional (3D) images of your teeth, jaw and surrounding nerves. These images provide greater detail than a standard dental X-ray and are commonly used for:

  • Dental implant planning
  • Wisdom tooth assessment
  • Complex extractions
  • Assessment of jaw abnormalities
  • Evaluation of nerves and surrounding bone
  • Surgical planning

The scan is performed similarly to a conventional CT examination, with specialised software creating detailed 3D images for your referring specialist.

How Do I Prepare for My Dental X-ray?

Preparing for your appointment is simple.

As the examination focuses on your head and neck, you’ll be asked to remove any metal objects that may interfere with the images, including:

  • Earrings
  • Necklaces
  • Glasses
  • Hair clips
  • Nose piercings
  • Tongue piercings
  • Other facial jewellery

Our friendly radiographers will guide you through the examination, which is quick, comfortable and non-invasive.
